Electricity; it comes from the socket in the wall . . . . . . . . . .
most energy available to mankind originates from the sun; be it stored in fossil fuels such as coal, crude oil and gas or be it direct sun energy like heat and light. Direct sun energy can be “harvested” by photovoltaics, the direct conversion of sun light into electricity.

On top of our joinery's roof 271 solar modules have been installed. These modules generate DC current which an inverter converts to AC current so it can by supplied to the national grid. Our little “power plant” generates 33kW peak. This is more electricity than we consume in total for private and business.

In 2003 the system generated more than 32,000kWh and saved the environment about 27,000kg carbon dioxide. Never the less we are not independent - the sun doesn't shine all the time. And in those periods we also do need electricity. But photovoltaics can be a valuable contribution to a more environment friendly energy mix.
